We are delighted to announce the practical completion of our latest project: a family home in Nether Poppleton built using sustainable modular Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) construction. This new cottage exemplifies cutting-edge efficiency and sustainability, showcasing the incredible potential of modern building techniques.
Project Highlights
The Sustainable ICF Cottage at Nether Poppleton is a testament to our commitment to innovative design and sustainable construction practices. Here are the key features that make this home a model of efficiency and eco-friendliness:
Superior Insulation: We designed the cottage to have outstanding insulation values, achieving U-values of 0.1 W/m²K for the floor and walls, 0.7 W/m²K for Norsten windows, and 0.11 W/m²K for the roof. This high level of insulation dramatically reduces energy consumption, ensuring the home remains comfortable throughout the year.
Remarkable Airtightness: We achieved an airtightness of 0.24 m³/h.m², which is 41.6 times better than current building regulations. This was accomplished through meticulous construction practices, including taping the ceiling to ensure minimal air leakage, significantly enhancing energy efficiency.
Efficient Heating Solutions: We selected two infrared mirrors and panels from Herschel to meet the heating demands of the home. These innovative heating solutions provide consistent warmth while using minimal energy, contributing to the overall sustainability of the cottage.
Solar Energy and Electrical Efficiency: We integrated a 15kW solar panel system with 3-phase electrics to triple the efficiency of the solar panels. This system not only powers the entire house but also provides heating to the hot water, reducing the home's reliance on external energy sources and lowering its carbon footprint.
